Individual Counseling

People come to counseling for many different reasons expecting many different results. Some individuals come looking for coping strategies to deal with mental illness, others for life’s transition (move, divorce, retirement, job loss, etc.) and still others come looking for someone to offer space to process life challenges.

It takes courage to reach out for help and as licensed professional counselors, we consider it great joy to help clients find their way back to peace by meeting them where they are at, holding space for them to process, listening to their needs, hearing what they are not saying and encouraging them to be honest with themselves so they can navigate their way back to strength and peace. We work with clients to meet their individual needs using many different evidence-based treatment interventions, walk with them through difficult challenges, and celebrate as they find their way back to a more thriving journey.

Working one on one with a clinician will allow you an opportunity to focus on your own personal needs to allow you the space to receive support, guidance, and the tools to inspire you towards meeting your individual goals.

Common concerns focused on during individual counseling include but are not limited to: anxiety, depression, chronic health concerns, traumatic experiences/memories, grief and loss, self-esteem, LGBTQ+ challenges, OCD, ADHD, relationship concerns, family dynamics, and stress management.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy allows children to express themselves in their natural language. In play therapy, children are given a safe environment to process their experiences and navigate life's challenges while learning skills to identify and communicate their feelings, regulate their emotions, develop self-control, and build self-efficacy.

Sandtray therapy is an expressive form of therapy for all ages. This method draws on the relaxing properties of sand and involves using miniature toys to create scenes in the sand reflecting aspects of the client's world. In processing their scenes, clients are allowed the opportunity to reflect on parts of their life and empowered to make changes towards growth and healing.

Teen Counseling

Being a teen is not easy and often brings a lot of challenges during this stage of life. Expanding Hope Counseling Services has clinicians qualified to provide therapy for both adolescents and families struggling to navigate the challenges that are becoming so incredibly common during this stage of life.

The adolescent years are a time of many changes and transitions, which often leads teens feeling overwhelmed and lost. Counseling can provide a safe and healthy outlet for adolescents to unpack the challenges they are facing while developing the skills they need to overcome these challenges. Counseling for adolescents and teens is shown to improve the overall functioning at both home and school.

Couples/Marriage Counseling

Through couples counseling, the clinician will help you process the concerns you are facing in your relationship, which will assist you in understanding the root of the problem. Our clinicians are trained to assist you in recognizing any dysfunctional patterns and then teach you how to change unhealthy patterns into new, beneficial ways of living as a couple.

Common concerns addressed in couples therapy include but are not limited to: communication issues, premarital counseling, difficulties with blended families, struggles from past relationships, concerns from an affair or betrayal, and navigating family dynamics.

Christian Counseling

God through his Word reminds us that He is our healer “Heal me O Lord and I will be healed”. Jeremiah 17:4a. Through Christian counseling, God is inviting us to embrace his truth in those places in our hearts that have harbored lies about who we are. It can be difficult for us as Christians to see those broken places in our hearts that need God’s healing truth. Christian Counseling allows space for Christ’s light to expose those darkened and broken places in our hearts and gives us an opportunity to embrace the truth of who we are in Christ. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5.

The clinicians embrace God’s Word and trust His Holy Spirit to lead us through each session resting in the power of his sovereignty. Through Christian counseling we can integrate the mental, relational, emotional, and spiritual aspects of care into a holistic approach to wellness leading to peace that passes all understanding.

It addresses physical, emotional, social, occupational, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of wellness. The goal is to help you achieve a balanced, healthy, and fulfilling life by promoting positive lifestyle changes and personal growth.

We help you develop practical action steps to help you make positive changes in your life.
We encourage the adoption of healthy habits, such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, adequate sleep, and stress management techniques. We teach strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges and introduce you to practices such as mindfulness meditation, deep breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques to enhance mental well-being.

LGBTQUIA+

This type of counseling aims to provide a safe, affirming, and supportive environment where you can explore your identities, navigate related issues, and improve your mental well-being.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of psychotherapy designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR is particularly effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) but is also used for other mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

It is believed that EMDR helps to process and integrate traumatic memories, reducing the emotional charge and allowing the brain to store them more adaptively.

Numerous studies have demonstrated EMDR's effectiveness in reducing symptoms of PTSD, often in fewer sessions than traditional psychotherapy.

Abuse

Establishing a trusting and supportive relationship between you and your therapist is crucial, given that abuse often involves a significant breach of trust. We provide a non-judgmental, empathetic space where can feel like you are being heard and your concerns are being heard and validated.
