People come to counseling for many different reasons expecting many different results.  Some come looking for coping strategies to deal with mental illness, others for life’s transition (move, divorce, retirement, job loss, etc.) and still others come looking for someone to offer space to process some difficult decisions.  It takes courage to reach out for help and as a licensed professional counselor I consider it joy to help clients find their way back to peace by meeting them where they are at, holding space for them to process, listening to their needs, hearing what they are not saying and encouraging them to be honest with themselves so they can navigate their way back to strength and peace.  I work with clients to meet their individual needs using many different evidenced-based treatment interventions, walk with them through difficult challenges and celebrate as they find their way back to peace and rest.

God through his Word reminds us that He is our healer “Heal me O Lord and I will be healed.” Jeremiah 17:4a.  Through Christian counseling God is inviting us to embrace his truth in those places in our hearts that have harbored lies about who we are.  It can be difficult for us as Christians to see those broken places in our hearts that need God’s healing truth.  Christian counseling allows space for Christ’s light to expose those darkened and broken places in our hearts and gives us an opportunity to embrace the truth of who we are in Christ.  “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Christian, I embrace God’s Word and trust His Holy Spirit to lead us through each session resting in the power of his sovereignty.  Through Christian counseling we can integrate the mental, relational, emotional and spiritual aspects of care into a holistic approach to wellness leading to peace that passes all understanding.

Working through the devastating effects of many types of trauma can feel very frightening and overwhelming.  You are not alone!  As a trauma therapist, I am passionate about helping clients navigate through the confusing, painful and difficult thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that trauma leaves behind.  I make it my mission to help normalize symptoms and incorporate information on the role of the brain in trauma and how these trauma experiences play an integral role in how we perceived life’s experiences.  While the experience itself causes confusion and pain, it is the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that we perceive as a result of the trauma that draws us to beliefs about ourselves that are not true.  Beliefs such as “It’s my fault”, “I’m not good enough”, and “There is something wrong with me”, amongst others.  As a therapist, I cannot talk you out of these beliefs, but I can join you in exploring and discovering how these beliefs are negatively affecting your life today.  I am committed to holding space that is safe, confidential and encouraging so that you can work through the painful places in your heart and ultimately find peace and rest.

I am also certified in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) a powerful tool to help reintegrate memories which once held painful identity beliefs in place. EMDR is an evidence-based intervention used to access and process traumatic memories and other adverse life experiences to bring these to an adaptive resolution.  The theory behind EMDR is that traumatic memories make changes to the brain.  These changes stop the mind from processing information properly, which causes anxiety and intrusive thoughts.  Experts believe that remembering the traumatic event while using EMDR allows the brain to process these memories correctly and integrate them into the story of the person’s life.  My role as an EMDR certified therapist is to provide comfort and support as the client navigates through his/her traumatic memories.
